Chettinad Chicken

Ingredients:

Chicken – 1/2 kg
Onions – 2 large (thinly sliced )
Tomatoes – 2 medium( finely chopped )
Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – few
Oil – 2 tbsp
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Salt – as per taste
Lemon juice – 2 tbsp
For masala : dry red chillies -4 , fennel seeds – 2 tsp , cumin seeds – 1 tsp , corriender seeds -2 tsp , cinnamon stick – 1 inch , peppercorns – 2 tsp , clove – 4-5, cardamom -4-5 , fresh coconut grated – 1/2 cup

Marinate chicken with salt , turmeric powder and lemon juice for 15-20 minutes . Now take a Kadhai and dry roast all masalas except coconut till you get a nice aroma . Now add coconut paste also and roast till it turns light golden . Let it cool down and then grind it into a smooth paste . Now , take oil in a Kadhai and add in curry leaves and ginger garlic paste . Sauté for a minute. Add onions and sauté until golden . Add tomatoes and cook for a minute. Add marinated chicken and mix well. Add one cup of water and cover the Kadhai . Let it simmer for some time . Add more water if required . Add ground masala and mix well . Cover and simmer for 10 minutes till it’s sides start leaving oil . Sprinkle some coriander leaves before serving . Serve hot with steamed rice or dosa.
